IN MEMORIAM
Over the years we have lost so many of our fine offices and first responders to cancer. We have been raising money and awareness for Cops for Cancer and Cancer research since 2014.
Here we celebrate the lives of our fellow first responders and friends.
CST. Hardeep kang
On May 18, 2013, Hardeep Kang
fell victim to a disease that has, in one way or another, affected us all.
Having departed this world far too soon Hardeep left behind a legacy inspired
by his courage and the manner in which he faced such an unforgiving and
relentless illness.
In October of 2011, at
the young age of 23, Hardeep was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumour. Hardeep refused to allow his sickness to keep him from doing the things
he loved. He insisted that spending time with his family and friends, being at
work doing the job he loved and serving as a police officer in the community
which he grew up, were far more effective proponents of recovery than rest and
relaxation at home.
Hardeep’s greatest
passion outside of policing was the game of hockey. He continued to play his
scheduled games within the Peel Regional Police hockey league despite doctors’
orders and various treatment scheduling conflicts. Each hockey game represented
an hour where Hardeep could ignore the otherwise constant reminder of cancer;
it was an hour where he could simply be himself.
Hardeep is remembered
as courageous. He is remembered as a man of character and a man of true human
spirit. Although he is no
longer with us today, his memory serves as a constant reminder that we cannot
quit. The annual Hardeep Kang
Memorial Tournament is an extension of Hardeep’s unwillingness to quit, his
determination to beat cancer. Together, we will continue his battle, in
Hardeep’s name and in the names of all others taken too soon. Together, we will make cancer
history.

CST. ANDY MCDONALD
In October 2016, we tragically lost our fellow officer, Andy Mcdonald, to cancer at the young age of 33. Though his time with us was short, he touched and inspired a great many people.

CST. MICHELE MARLBOROUGH (MARLEY)
On 16 Sep 2022, Michele
Marlborough (Marley) passed peacefully with partner Jenny Loucks by her side.
Loving daughter of Bill and Gail. Dear sister of Laurie, Sandi, and Heather;
and sister-in-law to John, late Paul, and Jill. She was a much-loved aunt to Rachel,
Andrew, Ryan, Sarah, Rory, Sam, Kristin, Justin, Nolan, Kelsey, Christian,
Miranda, Jack and Harrison, and great-aunt to Archer.
On, August of 2018, at the age
of forty-three, Michele was diagnosed with breast cancer. Michele never let
cancer define her and was relentless throughout her battle. Treatment after
treatment she refused to give in and remained determined to win her battle. She
even continued to work while on treatment as long as she could and was a
warrior throughout her lifetime.
Michele never showed any signs
of weakness to her family, friends, or fellow police officers. She was brave,
fearless, and determined in her fight. She inspired us all with her courage and
resiliency.
When Michele was not working,
she loved to play hockey, soccer, and softball. She was an amazing athlete and
competitor. She also participated in several charities throughout the years and
even shaved her head for “Cops for Cancer” one year. If there was a cause,
Michele would always volunteer to lend a hand. She will be remembered for her
compassion, courage, kindness, and love for life.
It is a true privilege to be a
part of this especially worthy cause and to honor all of those taken too soon.
